Expert Assessment Matters

About Left Image

Common concern areas include the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, and lines around the mouth, where repeated expression gradually “creases” the skin. Dynamic lines can become etched into longer-lasting static lines, which can make people look more tired, stressed, or stern than they feel. We customise treatment based on your facial movement patterns, skin quality, and whether the goal is prevention, softening, or structural skin renewal.

At Scars & Lasers, we choose treatments based on whether the priority is relaxing overactive expression muscles, rebuilding collagen for etched lines, or improving overall skin quality—and we often layer options for the most natural result.

Prescription wrinkle relaxers (expression-line softening)

Targets specific facial muscles that create expression lines, helping reduce the “folding” that forms wrinkles—especially across the frown, forehead, and crow’s feet. It can also help with muscle-driven asymmetry (for example, uneven pull after injury/surgery or natural variation).

Integrated skin treatments to enhance results (skin quality support)

Wrinkle reduction works best when the skin itself is supported—treatments and medical-grade skincare can complement muscle relaxation by improving smoothness, texture, and overall skin quality.

RF microneedling (collagen + elastin remodelling)

Uses controlled energy to stimulate deeper remodelling, helping skin elasticity “bounce back” and reducing resting lines—particularly useful when wrinkles are becoming more static.

Ablative fractional laser resurfacing (deeper lines + texture)

Removes and remodels damaged skin to regenerate collagen, improving the depth and severity of wrinkles. For more significant lines and laxity—especially around the eyes or mouth—more intensive resurfacing can be considered in suitable candidates.

Non-ablative fractional laser (mild–moderate wrinkles, lower downtime)

Stimulates collagen and elastin without removing surface skin layers, making it a strong option for fine lines, early wrinkles, and texture concerns where you want improvement with less downtime.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is wrinkle reduction and how does it work?

Angle Image

Wrinkle reduction treatments are designed to soften facial lines and prevent them from becoming deeper over time.

  • Wrinkles commonly form due to repeated facial expressions (such as frowning or smiling), natural ageing, sun exposure, and loss of collagen and skin elasticity.
  • Dynamic wrinkles are caused by muscle movement, while static wrinkles are visible even when the face is at rest.
  • Wrinkle reduction treatments work by:
    • Relaxing targeted facial muscles to reduce overactivity
    • Allowing the skin above the muscle to smooth out naturally
    • Supporting skin quality and collagen health when combined with skin-based treatments
  • The goal is a refreshed, natural appearance rather than a “frozen” look.
  • Treatments are tailored to your facial anatomy, expression patterns, and aesthetic goals.

What areas of the face can wrinkle reduction treat?

Angle Image

Wrinkle reduction can be used to address multiple facial areas where expression lines commonly develop.

  • Common treatment areas include:
    • Forehead lines caused by raising the eyebrows
    • Frown lines between the brows (often associated with tension or stress)
    • Crow’s feet around the eyes from smiling or squinting
    • Bunny lines on the nose
  • Additional applications may include:
    • Lip lines caused by repetitive mouth movements
    • Chin dimpling or tension
    • Facial asymmetry related to muscle imbalance
  • A thorough consultation ensures the treatment plan is balanced across the face to maintain harmony and natural movement.

What types of wrinkle reduction treatments are available?

Angle Image

Wrinkle reduction is not a one-size-fits-all approach and often involves a combination of treatments.

  • Muscle-relaxing treatments:
    • Reduce the activity of muscles that cause expression lines
    • Help prevent wrinkles from becoming deeper over time
  • Skin-focused treatments:
    • Improve skin texture, tone, and elasticity
    • Support collagen production for longer-term skin quality
  • Energy-based treatments:
    • Options such as radiofrequency microneedling or laser treatments
    • Stimulate collagen and elastin to improve overall skin firmness
  • Combination treatment plans are often recommended to achieve:
    • Natural-looking results
    • Better longevity
    • Improved skin health alongside wrinkle reduction

When can I expect to see results after treatment and how long do they last?

Angle Image

Results and longevity depend on the type of treatment and individual response.

  • Initial effects may begin to appear within a few days after treatment.
  • Full results are typically seen around 7–14 days.
  • The duration of results generally lasts:
    • Around 3–6 months for muscle-relaxing treatments
    • Longer when combined with skin-strengthening therapies
  • Factors that influence longevity include:
    • Muscle strength and facial movement patterns
    • Metabolism and lifestyle
    • Sun exposure and skincare routine
  • Regular maintenance treatments can help sustain results and prevent wrinkle progression.

Are wrinkle reduction treatments safe, and is there any downtime?

Angle Image

Wrinkle reduction treatments are considered safe when performed by trained and experienced medical professionals.

  • Treatments are:
    • Customised to suit your facial anatomy and medical history
    • Performed using clinically approved techniques
  • Common post-treatment effects may include:
    • Mild redness or swelling at injection sites
    • Temporary tenderness or small bumps that usually resolve quickly
  • Downtime is minimal:
    • Most patients return to normal activities the same day
    • Strenuous exercise and excessive heat may be avoided for 24 hours
  • Your practitioner will provide clear aftercare instructions to optimise results and minimise risks.

Do I need a consultation before starting wrinkle treatment?

Angle Image

Yes. A consultation is essential before starting wrinkle reduction treatment.

Wrinkle reduction is not simply about relaxing muscles — it is about refining expression, improving skin quality, and restoring structural balance. Optimal results often require more than injectables alone.

During your consultation, we assess:

  • Dynamic muscle activity and facial movement
  • Structural balance and symmetry
  • Skin texture, fine lines, and dermal thinning
  • Medical history and treatment suitability

Where appropriate, wrinkle reduction may be combined with dermal fillers, biostimulators, or laser resurfacing and energy-based skin renewal to enhance texture and stimulate collagen.

Our philosophy is precise refinement — preserving character while elevating skin quality.

Who Should I Book My Consultation With — Doctor or Nurse Injector?

Are there any risks? Is it safe?

Angle Image

Anti-wrinkle injections have been used safely in medical practice for over four decades and are considered one of the safest non-surgical cosmetic treatments available. Side effects are rare and temporary, and may include:

  • Minor bruising at the injection site
  • Localised effects such as temporary eyelid or brow droop

No long-term adverse effects have been reported when administered by trained professionals.

What are the dos and don’ts after anti-wrinkle injections?

Angle Image

After anti-wrinkle injections, most patients can return to normal daily activities, but a few simple precautions help reduce the risk of bruising, swelling, or product movement.

Do:

  • Remain upright for around 4 hours after treatment.
  • Gently use normal facial expressions; this is fine and does not harm the result.
  • Use a cold compress if there is mild swelling or tenderness.
  • Apply light mineral makeup later the same day if needed, unless advised otherwise.
  • Contact the clinic if you notice unusual symptoms, significant asymmetry, eyelid heaviness, or concerns about your result.
  • Allow time for the treatment to work. Results usually begin gradually and are not immediate.

Don’t:

  • Do not rub, massage, or press firmly on the treated areas for the rest of the day.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot yoga, or excessive heat for 24 hours.
  • Avoid lying flat for around 4 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid facials, facial massage, skin needling, laser, or other facial treatments over the treated area for at least 1–2 weeks, unless your clinician advises otherwise.
  • Avoid alcohol immediately after treatment if you are prone to bruising.
  • Do not assess the final result too early, as the treatment settles gradually over several days.

A review may be recommended after the treatment has fully settled, particularly for first-time patients or when treating more complex facial areas.
