An intralesional steroid injection is a treatment where corticosteroids, are injected directly into a scar or lesion. This procedure is commonly used to reduce the size, redness, and discomfort of raised scars, such as keloids or hypertrophic scars. The steroids work by decreasing inflammation, suppressing excessive collagen production, and softening the scar tissue. Treatments are generally quick, minimally invasive, and may require multiple sessions for optimal results. Side effects, such as skin thinning or lightening at the injection site, are rare and usually temporary.
