How It Works

What to Expect During a MiraDry Treatment
‍The procedure begins with cleansing the underarm area using an antiseptic solution. A combination of local anaesthetic and adrenaline is then injected to minimize discomfort, prevent bleeding, and extend the numbing effect. This injection process is typically the most uncomfortable part of the treatment—once complete, the area becomes numb, and most patients feel little to no sensation during the procedure.

Next, a precise template is drawn on the skin to guide the placement of the handpiece. The MiraDry device is then applied to the underarm, where it gently suctions the skin to ensure even distribution of the microwave energy.

While the deeper layers of skin absorb the heat to target sweat and odour glands, the surface remains cool and comfortable. After the treatment, most patients can resume normal daily activities right away. However, it’s recommended to avoid high-intensity exercise for the first few days to allow the area to recover.

Is there any pain or downtime?

Most patients find the procedure to be quite comfortable, with little to no downtime. To ensure your comfort, a local anaesthetic is applied to the underarm area before treatment begins.

You can typically return to everyday activities—like going back to work—usually after 3-5 days. However, we recommend avoiding vigorous exercise for about a week post-treatment. Temporary side effects such as swelling, numbness, bruising, or sensitivity in the underarms may occur and usually resolve within a few days.

How long does the treatment take?

A typical appointment takes a couple of hours. This includes time to administer local anesthesia and mark the area for treatment. The procedure itself takes about an hour.

Are there any side effects?

Mild soreness or swelling in the treated area is common and usually subsides within a few weeks. Some patients may also experience temporary changes in skin sensation in the underarms or upper arms, which gradually return to normal.

What results can I expect?

Once sweat and odour glands are treated with miraDry, they’re permanently eliminated.
