Why choose this method?

About Left Image

Treating periorbital veins can significantly improve the appearance of dark or tired-looking eyes by reducing the visible red, blue, or purple veins around the eyelids. These veins often stand out due to the thin skin and minimal fat in the area, making them a common cosmetic concern. The Excel V+ laser is the preferred choice for this treatment because it safely and precisely targets these vessels using dual wavelengths (532nm and 1064nm), effectively closing them without harming the surrounding skin. It delivers fast, predictable results with minimal downtime, making it an ideal option for brightening and smoothing the eye area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Periorbital Vein Treatment with Excel V+ Laser – What to Expect

Angle Image
  • Pre-Treatment Preparation
On the day of treatment, the area will be thoroughly cleansed, topical anaesthetic applied to the eyelid region, and numbing eye drops administered. Please inform us if you have any allergies to anaesthetics or antibiotics.
  • Eye Protection
Once the eyes are numb, contact lens-style eye shields are placed to protect your eyes during the procedure.
  • Laser Treatment
The Excel V+ laser is then used to precisely target and close the visible veins using 532nm or 1064nm wavelengths, depending on the colour and depth of the vessels.
  • Post-Treatment Care
Mild redness, swelling, or bruising may occur and typically resolves within 3–4 days.
  • What results can I expect?

    Angle Image

Results are often immediate as the laser collapses the vein wall. Most patients require 2 to 3 days.

How are my eyes protected during the procedure?

    Angle Image

Depending on where the vein is:

    • External eye shields (metal goggles) are used for veins outside the orbital rim.
    • Internal eye shields are used for upper and lower eyelid veins inside the orbit.

Are there other treatment options besides laser?

    Angle Image

Sclerotherapy is another option but is rarely used around the eyes due to safety concerns.Injecting sclerosant near the eyes can lead to serious complications, including blindness.Laser remains the gold standard for safety and precision.

    Why does vein size matter?

    Angle Image
  • Larger, deeper veins (blue) need longer wavelength lasers like 1064 nm (Excel V+ )
  • Smaller, superficial veins (red) require shorter wavelengths like 595 nm (Candela V Beam) or 532 nm (Excel V+).We match the laser to the size and depth of the vessel for optimal results.
  • Who performs the treatment?

    Angle Image

All procedures are performed by a specialist laser dermatologist.

    What are the risks?

    Angle Image

Laser treatment is generally very safe. Side effects are rare and temporary.
    Here’s a breakdown:

    • Redness (24–48 hours): ~10%
    • Blistering: <2%
    • Pigmentation changes: ~2%
    • Scarring: <0.1%

    Why do periorbital veins occur?

    Angle Image

They’re mostly genetic, but also become more noticeable with:

    • Aging (thinner skin)
    • Fair skin tones
    • Weight loss (less tissue covering veins)
